Teen Therapy

Teen Therapy, for older children (ages 14-17) uses board games, card games, creative arts, and/or role playing.  Teens enjoy participating in these developmentally appropriate activities while also working directly on therapeutic goals.

Parents seek therapy for their teenagers for reasons including:

  • fear, worry, anxiety
  • sadness, hopelessness, depression
  • lack of motivation in school
  • irritability and anger
  • rule breaking, defiance, and acting out
  • poor peer and/or family relationships
  • adjusting to life changes (move, divorce, etc)
  • self harm and/or suicidal thoughts
  • grief and loss

What to Expect

Therapy for teens works best when a parent, family member, or caretaker is actively involved in the treatment process.  The first appointment is a parent intake appointment for me to meet with one, or both, parents.  This time is used is for me to learn about your teen, your family, therapeutic concerns, goals, and any interventions that may have been attempted.  Based on that information, I will explain to you a treatment plan that would involve both you and your teenager, recommendations for home, and recommendations regarding frequency and format of therapy.
